The Challenge

Island Warriors required an extensive Foley and sound design approach to bring its intense martial arts sequences to life. The director wanted every punch, kick, and weapon clash to feel visceral and authentic while maintaining clarity in the complex multi-fighter scenes.

Our Solution

We assembled a comprehensive Foley recording schedule spanning three weeks. Our team recorded:

• Over 1,200 individual fight sound effects using various impact materials
• Custom weapon sounds including bamboo staffs, rattan sticks, and traditional blades
• Environmental ambience recorded on location in Davao and surrounding areas
• Cloth and movement Foley for 15 main characters

The mixing process involved creating distinct sonic signatures for each fighting style, ensuring audiences could follow the action even in the most chaotic scenes. We used layered sound design techniques to add weight and impact without overwhelming the dialogue.

Results

Island Warriors premiered at the Cinemalaya Film Festival to critical acclaim, with multiple reviews praising the "thunderous and immersive sound design." The film went on to win Best Sound Design at the 2024 Filipino Film Awards and has been picked up for international distribution.

The Challenge

This ambitious RPG needed a fully interactive audio system that could adapt to player choices, environmental conditions, and combat intensity. The game features an open world inspired by Filipino mythology, requiring authentic cultural representation in the audio design.

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with the development team to implement Wwise middleware, creating:

• 5,000+ sound effects organized into dynamic systems
• Adaptive music that responds to gameplay intensity and location
• Authentic recordings of traditional Filipino instruments
• Spatial audio implementation for realistic 3D soundscapes
• Voice processing for mythological creatures

Technical Innovation

We developed custom audio scripts that allowed seamless transitions between different musical themes based on player actions. The combat system features layered sound design that scales with the number of enemies, creating tension without becoming overwhelming.
